Featured Artist Interview | DJ Bella Fiasco
Earlier this week our team met up with our girl Dj Bella Fiasco, to chat it up about her current state as one of the hottest female Dj's coming up in the game out of our hometown of Los Angeles, and boy did she have much to say about her come up, what's next and much more.

(L.A Clique) Why “DJ Bella Fiasco”?
(Bella Fiasco) 'Bella Fiasco' is italian for 'Beautiful Disaster' and it's a poem I wrote in literature workshop a long time ago, which is one of my all-time favorite pieces. Ironically, Bella is also my (nick)name in real life. It just worked out perfectly for me.
(L.A Clique) So how did you begin your start as a DJ, can you tell us about it?
(Bella Fiasco) I've always been a huge music junkie. Coming from a musically inclined family, my Dad tried to teach me how to play just about every object that made noise. On my 13th birthday, he bought me a professional DW drum set and I instantly fell in love…Until one day, I came home to a pair of new turntables set up in our music room and my Dad excitedly says "Why don't you try it?" From then on, the rest was a personal exploration into the art of DJ'ing. I taught myself everything I know now just from watching youtube videos hours on out every night. It was as though DJ'ing found me, instead of the other way around. I'm in love… and this time it's real. [winks]
(L.A Clique) Who are your influences and what kind of music do you spin?
(Bella Fiasco) I didn't have particular DJs as influences when I was just getting started, simply because it was quite a foreign world to me. Music in itself was my only influence, I wanted to learn how to spin all kinds of music from all sorts of genres and artists in all varieties of styles and techniques. That's my influence, MUSIC, dead on simple. With that said, I spin everything that has quality- From 80s, 90s, RnB, Hip Hop, House, Electro, Mainstream, all the way back to Classics.

(L.A Clique) What keeps you going? and what does it mean to you to be a female DJ in the industry?
(Bella Fiasco) The satisfaction and pleasure I give the people who listen to me spin is what ultimately keeps me going… and of course Redbull (when I need wings). Being a female DJ in the industry to me means STYLE & GRACE (RIP Biggie) - style in skill and presentation, and grace in personality and charisma. The standards for us female DJs are not exactly higher, just way more aggressive since it's still not too common in the game. It's all about flava'!
(L.A Clique) What would you have to say is one of the craziest experiences you have had at a gig?
(Bella Fiasco) I've had one too many! But if I really had to pick one, it would probably be the very first time I made a huge boo-boo during my set. I remember this night perfectly; I was spinning primetime at a well-known club and all of a sudden, the music stops completely and the whole crowd looks up at me screaming "whatever noise hundreds of upset people make together." The needle got caught in my chain necklace. Of course in a state of panic, I didn't know what to do. It took me a good 5 seconds to slap myself back in my senses and drop the needle back in its place. I think only another DJ would understand the terrible feeling… Until now I still have flashbacks of the crowd nearly boo'ing me out of the club! Fashion sure gets me in a lot of trouble [Kanye shrug].
(L.A Clique) With a badd ass hair style like yours, how important is fashion for Miss Bella Fiasco & what inspires your sense of style?
(Bella Fiasco) I must admit, fashion is crucially important in my life. I'm that type who hates to repeat outfits specially when I've already taken pictures in it (ridiculous, I know). My attitude inspires my sense of style; I'm a little tough and rough on the edges, but maintain a taste in class. In summary, I hate pink, 95% of my clothes are black, heels and vintage boots are my obsession, I love red lipstick, and I can never imagine myself with short hair… just bald on one side [laughs].

(L.A Clique) Im sure the fellas would like to know, are you single or taken?
(Bella Fiasco) Single aka MARRIED TO THE GRIND!
(L.A Clique) As a female DJ, we're sure you receive massive attention before, during, and after your gigs; What's the funniest pick up lines someone has shot at you?
(Bella Fiasco) My top 3 would be.."I'm a promoter, I want to book you." Why does everyone suddenly become a promoter when they get a chance to stand by the DJ booth next to me? [laughs].."What's your rate?" What am I a prostitute? [laughs] And finally "I own a clothing company & you would look great in my clothes, can I take pictures of you?" Shout out to Boogs from L.A Clique who approached me the right way
(L.A Clique) Do you have any tips for women out there trying to break into the DJ industry?
(Bella Fiasco) Always a good question; Just in general, if you're pursuing to become a DJ, my best advice is ALWAYS CATER TO YOUR CROWD. I know most of you feel as though DJs "play whatever they want" because we have the control to, but a real DJ's job is to provide listening pleasure to the audience before him/herself. Play what they want to hear, not what you want to play. As for any females out there thinking of stepping up to the plate, consider yourself one with the guys. Staying in your lane as a "female DJ" limits the aptitude of your skill. If you're a DJ, you're a DJ… gender generalization is unnecessary. But if it has to come down to utilizing your gender to get where you want, by all means, just make sure it compromises with your talent to say the least.

(L.A Clique) Interesting facts about you that most people might not know?
(Bella Fiasco) - I'm an artist, I've joined and won several art competitions for my paintings and drawings..I have a collection of old notebooks where I used to write all my poetry..People always compliment me on the way I smell, well I love using men's cologne..I have pretty bad hearing and I would like to blame DJ'ing for that..I have a very, very close relationship with my family..I don't like receiving roses and chocolates, men need to be more creative than that to get through to me..French fries is the way to my heart
(L.A Clique) Whats next for DJ Bella Fiasco? And where can people rock with you? Any residencies?
